Sets of two organic cotton napkins that have been hand-dyed in my home studio. This series is a reflection of the colours I cherish within the natural surroundings of Victoria, BC: "Driftwood" (dyed with dried walnut husks), "West Coast Mountains" (indigo), "Lichen" (myrobalan + 2% iron dip), and "Magnolia" (cochineal). This is my West Coast.

Naturally dyed fabric is a labour-intensive process that involves many steps over a few days: scouring, tannin dye, mordanting, dyeing, and washing. The result is absolutely worth it: the depth of colour from botanicals is like nothing you will see from a factory.

Please get in touch if you would like a number of napkins from the same batch, to ensure each is exactly the same colour. Different batches will be slightly different due to the handmade nature of the product.

As this cloth has been naturally dyed in small batches by hand, each is a little different and may have slightly uneven hues and darker/lighter spots. Items like this show us the way to embracing the nature of handmade goods and botanical dyes. They are made with intention and care, not with machines and nasty chemicals, and thus are sometimes imperfect. Natural dyes vary in lightfastness, therefore fading is normal and expected. There is so much beauty to welcome in this impermanence.

These generously sized napkins are wonderfully multi-purpose! They can be used for furoshiki (Japanese wrapping cloth), as a handkerchief, or even a bandana (for smaller heads!). They work great as a kitchen cloth to cover a bowl of fruit, bread or eggs. As an eco-friendly product, you have the power to create a long life cycle and reuse the fabric in multiple ways. They can even be re-dyed at any time.

Naturally dyed fabric requires a little forethought and care. Do not leave in the sun or bright light for long periods of time. When not in use, please store in a dark cabinet or drawer. Wash in cool water on the delicate cycle and dry on low to medium heat, or hang to dry. Ironing is optional.

Shipping overages are always refunded.
